Used in daycares, hospitals, nursing homes continuous duty electric strikes in fail safe mode require power to remain locked. If the power fails they unlock allowing free egress and possibly preventing injury to the occupants.

Intermittent duty strikes require power to unlock so if the power fails, your security won't. These strikes tend to last longer than continuous duty strikes as they don't have power going to them as often.
